When the Ladder Tried to Walk, 2025

The central piece of my diploma graduation show, When the Ladder Tried to Walk is a textile sculpture constructed around a metal skeleton. The work takes the form of an unstable ladder, waving slightly in the space, unbalanced, and missing several of its steps. It appears both animated and impaired, as if it once tried to escape its function but collapsed mid-act, as if in the act of movement but unable to move. My aim was to reflect on the tension between aspiration and limitation, progress and failure, structure and softness. A domestic object reimagined not for use, but as a character in a state of becoming.
Das zentrale Werk meiner Diplomabschlussausstellung When the Ladder Tried to Walk ist eine textile Skulptur, die um ein Metallskelett herum aufgebaut ist. Das Werk nimmt die Form einer instabilen Leiter an, die sich leicht im Raum zu wiegen scheint, aus dem Gleichgewicht geraten und mit mehreren fehlenden Sprossen. Sie wirkt zugleich belebt und beeinträchtigt, als hätte sie einst versucht, ihrer Funktion zu entkommen, doch mitten in der Bewegung zusammengebrochen, als wolle sie sich bewegen, ohne es zu können. Mein Ziel war es, die Spannung zwischen Streben und Begrenzung, Fortschritt und Scheitern, Struktur und Weichheit zu reflektieren. Ein Alltagsobjekt, neu gedacht, nicht zum Gebrauch, sondern als Figur in einem Zustand des Werdens.
